Hand woven “Manta” bag from Peru

I met Delia, a woman from the Quechua ethnic minority living in Peru and Bolivia, whose parents lived in a traditional way.

Delia, who runs a folk craft shop , sells bags and pouches made from a textile called "manta" made by indigenous people.

I felt that she had a unique sense in the design of the bag and the choice of manta rays that were not available at the market or other shops, so I had her make a semi-custom bag for me.

In the highlands of the Andes, manta cloth made of wool is essential for protection from the cold. The wool of domestic sheep and llamas is sheared, spun, made into thread, and dyed. All processes are done by hand and are part of mountain life.

The brown, black, and white parts are the natural color of the llama's undyed fur. It is characterized by a soft feel without any stiffness.
